My Year in Travel: 7 Photos
December 20, 2011 by Eva Holland
2011 was a busy travel year for me – at least, for the first three seasons. I’ve been more or less grounded through the fall, but these seven photos represent my winter, spring and summer travels. Looking forward to more in 2012!

January: Road trip to Anchorage. This is the Alaska Highway near Burwash.

February: I flew into Slaven's Roadhouse, in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve, to work on a volunteer Yukon Quest crew.

March: I spent a couple of nights in nearby Atlin, BC, on a DIY writing retreat.

April: I caught a hell of a sunset in Bridgetown, Barbados.

June: I headed south on a two-month west coast road trip. One of my first stops was the Signpost Forest, just off the Alaska Highway in Watson Lake, YT.

July: I made it as far south as LA before heading north again, via southern Utah. This shot's from my brief stop in Arches National Park.

September: When I came home, I signed on as a laborer with a mining exploration company. I wound up spending a month hinking in these mountains north of Mayo.

Looking forward to what 2012 has in store for you E!
Happy holidays!
How was the volunteer work with the Yukon Quest? That sounds like fun! Also, I love the idea of a DIY writing retreat. I need to do the same.
Thanks, Lola! JoAnna – The volunteer gig was great. Unfortunately the resulting story isn’t online, scanning it is on my 2012 to-do list. Ha.
Also, I can’t recommend a DIY writing retreat strongly enough. I rented a little cabin and locked myself away with no phone, internet, etc. for three days. It was fantastic.
Looks like a fun year. I loved my time in Anchorage covering the start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Those dogs sure love to run!
beautiful photos and many memories – lived in Whitehorse as a helicopter ‘bush’ pilot – lived on Herschel Island (Yukon coast) as ‘rookie’ Mounted Policeman – would love to use some of these for painting next few yrs enjoyable and “Thanks” Tom K Vickers, New Brunswick
