Greetings from Barbados!
I landed on Sunday and will be kicking around the Eastern Caribbean (Barbados, Saint Lucia, and the Grenadines, specifically) for three weeks.
I’ve also had a handful of stories published recently:
Over at Matador, Choose Your Own Blues Adventure and the companion piece, Highway Blues: Essential Tunes for a Delta Roadtrip, both went live this morning.
Meanwhile, my interview with Kelly Westhoff and Jen Paulus, the co-founders of CheSpotting.com, was published at World Hum on Friday.
I’ll be updating my Stories page shortly.
Have fun island hopping! Sounds like a great time.
Thanks, L! I’ll have a cocktail for you. 🙂
Hi Eva,
I read some of your work on Travel Writing and love what you cover. What intrigued most of all is that on your bio it says that you quit your full time job to be a travel writer. How has it been so far? I am so curious. I am contemplating to go down the same career path.
Any tips?
Hi Nic,
Thanks for stopping by! It’s been great so far – hard work, but a lot of fun, too.
I quit my job as an archival researcher a little over a year ago. Before that I’d been freelancing occasionally on the side for about 3 years, and really working at it, writing more and more regularly, for one year. It’s not an easy transition to make – I gave up my apartment and have basically been living out of a suitcase, or in short-term sublets and house-sits, for the last year. It took a few months after I quit my job before I actually started breaking even. But if you can make it work, it’s worth it!
Hope that helps.
I love island-hopping. I’m in the Caribbean for three weeks as well. This is my first time and I absolutely love it. Although I’m not a professional travel writer (I wish!), I truly admire your occupation. This place is a buffet for the eyes. Friendly people, beautiful beaches, great food. I hope to be back soon.
